Early College Credit in Sonoma County

Guide & Resources for Administrators

What is Early College Credit (ECC)?

There are essentially THREE different kinds of Early College Credit (ECC) options:

  • Community College (CC) and High School (HS) instructors create a signed agreement whereby students take a HS class considered comparable to a designated CC course; upon completion of the course, students take a college-approved final assessment to earn college credit if passing with a B or higher (Cs are optionally transcribed based on student preference). HS credit is also earned.

  • Also known as, Concurrent Enrollment, is where High School (HS) students enroll in a Community College (CC) course and earn college credit. The course is taught by a CC instructor, and students potentially earn both high school and college credit. Dual Enrollment (DE) classes can be synchronous or asynchronous.

  • Collage & Career Access Pathways (CCAP) agreements are designed to target underrepresented and disadvantaged high school students in a pathway that leads to a Community College (CC) program; courses are often taught on the high school campus by either a CC instructor or a high school instructor who meets CC teaching requirements.
