CTE Model Curriculum Standards

page_1.jpg

The CTE Model Curriculum Standards establish both pathways and pathway-specific standards within a given industry sector.

All CTE classes are also responsible for covering general Standards for Career Ready Practice.

These documents can be valuable resources in designing or revising specific units and projects. Click here for a poster version of the Career Ready Practice standards you could hang on your wall.

CTE Industry Sectors and Pathways

There are 15 career industry sectors, each divided into various pathways with their own unique standards. For CA Dashboard and CTEIG reporting purposes, courses count as part of a “pathway” if they include a minimum of TWO, but ideally THREE, classes within a specific industry strand: an Introductory, Concentrator, and Capstone course. (If only two classes are offered, they must be Concentrator and Capstone.) For example, in the Building and Construction Trades industry sector, there are four different pathways: Cabinetry, Millwork, and Woodworking; Engineering and Heavy Construction; Mechanical Systems Installation and Repair; and Residential and Commercial Construction. A school must offer at least a Concentrator and Capstone course in a specific pathway , such as Residential and Commercial Construction, in order for the offerings to count as a pathway.

For a detailed explanation of each sector and pathway, check out the CDE’s Model Curriculum Standards by industry sector (currently under review). And how about a poster of all the CTE industry sectors and pathways to hang on your wall?
